Better This Way - Single
About
With a combination of compelling drums, a driving bass, bright acoustic guitar and layers of tight background vocals under an expressive lead vocal, Better This Way brings forward a summery sound that is reminiscent of early 2000s pop songs, an era that Ryan draws a lot of inspiration from. “I feel like this would be a good road trip song. Volume turned up, windows rolled down, wind blowing through and the sun shining bright. All that with the upbeat tempo and soaring melodies of this song. It’s a vibe,” Ryan explains.
Ryan’s songwriting is described as catchy, simple and meaningful. Better This Way specifically reflects on the moment you realize that the person or people you thought you could confide in and love actually don’t reciprocate that same sentiment. You’re then left to deeply contemplate if you’re better off pursuing life separately, while constantly going back and forth with how they made you feel and ultimately letting go.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
It's hard for me to move on
I can't stop thinking
Am I better now that you're gone
Or am I lying
[Pre-Chorus 1]
To myself
'Cause no one else
Made me
[Chorus 1]
Feel like you do
You walked into my life
Stayed a while then said goodbye
Every night I wonder
When you had nothing to say
That you realized that things
Are better this way
[Verse 2]
A thousand words but none (A thousand words but none)
Can explain this feeling (I can’t, no I can’t)
Maybe you weren't the one (No you weren’t the one)
And now I'm left here dealing (Ahhh)
[Pre-Chorus 2]
With this heartache
'Cause no one else
Made me
[Chorus 2]
Feel like you do
You walked into my life
Stayed a while then said goodbye
Every night I wonder
When you had nothing to say
That you realized that things
Are better this way
[Bridge]
I miss how we used to be
Is there a chance that we'll go back
And letting go isn't easy
'Cause no one else, no one else
Made me
[Chorus 3]
Feel like you do
You walked into my life
Stayed a while then said goodbye
Every night I wonder
When you had nothing to say
That you realized that things
Are better this way, yeah
