Toronto singer-songwriter Ryan Flores takes life’s complexities—love, friendship, stress and struggle—and crafts simple songs with gratifying melodies.

Characterizing his sound as acoustic pop, Ryan’s influences range from classic artists like Elton John and The Beatles, to well-known pop/R&B sensations such as Ne-Yo and Destiny’s Child, to independent Filipino-American artists who rose to popularity on YouTube such as AJ Rafael and Passion. It’s the combination of these influences that sets Ryan’s repertoire apart from others.

After spending much of his secondary and early post-secondary school years studying to pursue a career in neuroscience, Ryan eventually realized that this career pathway was not for him, opting instead to chase a passion that he’s had all along and a passion that brought him so much satisfaction—music.

Since 2011, Ryan has secured performance slots at notable Toronto venues such as Yonge-Dundas Square, Harbourfront Centre, Metro Toronto Convention Centre and Nathan Phillips Square. Additionally, he has co-produced and co-written a number of songs and albums with other local artists. In his early years of music, Ryan frequented many open mics weekly across Toronto, and was also a licensed TTC Subway Musician for 3 years. Additionally, he hosted an Open Mic Night series at University of Toronto’s Hart House for 4 years, and was the head judge for the university’s singing competition, UofT Idol.

Ryan’s debut EP release Wayfarer is significant in that it marked the official start of Ryan’s career as an independent singer-songwriter. Wayfarer is a collection of songs that represents the ups and downs of Ryan’s transition into music as a career, and the perseverance he displayed in his plight to rebound from rock bottom. In addition to writing, recording and producing the record himself, Ryan collaborated with singer-songwriter and producer Jesse Barrera and one of Canada’s most accomplished recording engineers Alf Annibalini on the production Wayfarer.

Just over 4 years later, Ryan is gearing up for his next release—his debut full-length album Introspective, set to release in late summer 2020. Introspective contains a brand new collection of unreleased songs that resulted from silent and solo introspection over the highs and lows, the simple and complex, the laughs and cries and the satisfaction and stresses of life.
